Xopus 4 Released!

We are proud to present Xopus 4!

Xopus is the browser based XML editor for non-technical authors. Xopus provides an easy to use interface to XML documents.

Xopus 4 introduces several important new features.

Change Tracking

Xopus now supports tracking of text changes. Authors can choose to accept or reject changes. The changes are saved in the XML document. Change Tracking can be configured using the API or configuration.

New Browser Support

Browsers now supported:

  • Firefox 3 (new)
  • Internet Explorer 8 (new)
  • Internet Explorer 7
  • Internet Explorer 6 (not recommended)

Xopus browser support has been extended to include Firefox 3. This means that in addition to Windows XP and Vista Xopus now also supports the Mac OS X and Linux operating systems.

More WYSIWYG

The WYSIWYG capabilities of Xopus 3 were already unsurpassed, but Xopus 4 takes WYSIWYG to the next level. Xopus 4 will not influence the rendering of your XSL output. The HTML in the editor will look exactly like the static HTML in the browser.

With a fully custom built cursor implementation, Xopus no longer depends on browser-native implementations of edit-options. CSS features like float, display:none and absolute and relative positioning can now be used to create even better looking, and better working interfaces.

Property Panel

The property panel replaces the attributes editor popup. Properties are attributes and simple-type elements that do not repeat. The properties panel shows the properties of all ancestor elements of the selection.

Xopus 4 introduces date, time and color pickers.

Improved Editing Experience

A Ctrl+Enter insert menu has been implemented for quick lookup and insertion of structure.

1. Press Ctrl + Enter1. Press Ctrl + Enter
2. Press 'e'2. Press 'e'
3. Press 'm'3. Press 'm'
4. Select Preference4. Select Preference

In Xopus 3 performance could degrade after a while. Xopus 4 has improved resource handling to maintain stable performance during the day.

Xopus 4 no longer uses popups so you don't need to disable your popupblockers.

The spellchecker and find & replace have been improved in usability and performance for larger documents.

Added support for the CALS Table Model.

Upgrading from Xopus 3

There are few changes between Xopus 3 and Xopus 4 implementations. Upgrading to the new version should not be a lot of trouble.

Exact details are available in the Upgrade document.

System Requirements

Xopus 4 is fully functional in Internet Explorer 6. However Internet Explorer 6 is becoming outdated in its capability to support Xopus demands. We strongly recommend using another browser for improved performance.

Further Information

Following the release of Xopus 4 we will discontinue support for Xopus 2 on January 1st 2010.
