What is Xopus?
An Xml Editor
Xopus is an XML editor. Xopus is friendly because it offers users a WYSIWYG interface. Xopus bridges the gap between word-processing editors and XML editors by providing an easy to use and understand interface for editing complex, structured, and high quality content. Xopus assists the user by providing the user with the logical options when editing, and hiding those options that do not apply.
user friendly author assisting
Xopus allows users to add structure to their content later without needing technical knowledge about the structure. Users can just start typing their content and focus on the creative processes. Later they can put their content into the correct forms by simply, visibly, applying a 'style', such as 'header' or 'list', which represent the structure. This makes Xopus a WYSIWYG XML editor.
XML based
With the use of XML Xopus offers all the benefits of XML, such as semantically structured content, content re-use, multi-channel publishing, easy translation organization ,and content and style separation.
This makes it possible for people to create high quality content that can be used for the web, for print, for content that is organized and that can be used in many ways. For example the function 'compareDocumentPosition' from the Xopus documentation ranks higher in Google than its Java equivalent, because the contents of the Xopus Documentation, which is XML edited with Xopus, are transformed into easy searchable, clean, HTML.
Browser based
Xopus works in the browser, client-side. It does not have high server requirements. Xopus is a fully client side application.
Extendable
Xopus is a highly generic editor that allows developers to extend the editor with custom features. Xopus is developed to work with the majority of XML documents, but for more complex content the API can be used to create specific functionality. Xopus can be integrated into any CMS.
If you have XML that doesn't quite work well with Xopus you could consider using a second format of XML that is edited in Xopus, and transforming this back and forth to your own XML format.
