 GrafiData and Xopus

Xopus in ThiemeMeulenhoff

GrafiData implemented Xopus for ThiemeMeulenhoff, one of the largest educational publishers in The Netherlands. They needed an application for authors, to produce valid XML that meets the requirements of the IMS Question and Test Interoperability standard (QTI). This standard defines an XML language for interchanging questions and assessments between different systems. Together with ThiemeMeulenhoff we integrated the QTI schema in their existing learning methods. This way it is ensured that authors use all the obligatory elements of a certain kind of question. The XML is stored in a database and can later be used partially or complete in both print and online-applications.

Xopus is embedded in a website that controls the workflow; the author can get a general idea of how the document will look in print by looking at a preview, editors and project managers can monitor the progress of a document and leave notes for the author. It proved to be a success, the editors and project managers have more control over the process and authors can produce valid XML without any technical knowledge.
