License Keys

Licenses are created for an amount of users and an amount of servers. For every server you will get one license key (a file). An amount of users is then assigned to a license key. If you have more than one server and users who work on more than one server, then users should be defined multi-server users when you request the license.

We will then send you one or more small text files, which are your keys. These files need to be placed in the license folder, with the other license files for 127.0.0.1 and localhost.

Xopus uses the key to see if the server that you are working on is authenticated and doesn't exceed the amount of users for the license. Every time you start Xopus, Xopus tries to contact the Xopus License server. If it cannot, it will try again next time. At startup Xopus sends a code to the license server. This code represents the license key itself, a revision number of Xopus, a userId, which is generated, and not related to a person, but related to computer, and lastly the domain that Xopus is working on.

Xopus connects with a license server to see whether the instance of Xopus that is being started is valid.

Below are the answers to some of the frequently asked questions about the license server:

What does the license server do?

  1. Every time you start Xopus Xopus connects with the license server and checks if the license is valid.

  2. Xopus registers how many people are using the license by providing a generated unique ID to the license server when Xopus is tarted.

What information is sent to the license server?

Four things are sent to the server:

  1. License key

This key is checked for the hostname.

  2. Revision number

This is a number which we use in-company to track changes to Xopus.

  3. A generated unique user id

This ID is sent to the server and the server refreshes it. It is used to see how many people are using the license.

  4. The hostname

This is the hostname with which the license was registered. This hostname can be seen in the name of the license file (txt file) in the license directory of your Xopus installation.

Does Xopus work if my computer is offline?

Yes, Xopus will skip the license check if the server can't be reached.

What about my privacy?

Your privacy is secure. Xopus doesn't register any user information, and so no user information is sent to the license server.

What is important to us is the use of the license, and not the user. We check how many users are working with a license, and not who is working with a license. Only the information about the license and information to count users is sent to the server.

Does Xopus send my documents to the license server?

No, Xopus just helps you edit your documents, but it doesn't read them. Therefore they aren't sent to the license server either.

Licenses can be obtained by emailing to sales@xopus.com, or by using the shop.
