Xopus 3.2 Released!
I am proud to announce that version 3.2 of the Xopus browser based xml editor is now available to try online or download.
Version 3.2 introduces the following new features:
- Beta: Firefox 2 support
- Multi-lingual xml-aware spellchecker
- SVG and MathML xsl output
For a detailed description of the changes in version 3.2 see:

Xopus now offers the long awaited Firefox support. It is still beta, all known issues are superficial or rare. There are no known bugs that can't be worked around. We did find that Firefox can't match the performance of Internet Explorer, so if you're using large xml documents or complex xsl, they may not perform well in Firefox. However, html rendering is fast in Firefox, so if the html complexity is the bottleneck in your case, Firefox may actually be faster.
Also long awaited is the new multi-lingual spellchecker. It will check the spelling of all elements that have an xml:lang attribute set to a known language. We currently support British, American and Canadian English and Dutch. If you need support for another language, please contact us and we'll try to include it in the next release. Users of the previously available serverside spellchecker interface can still use that interface. If you wish to switch to the new spellchecker, you just need to remove the reference to your spellchecker server from your Xopus configuration file.
Xopus can now render SVG and MathML output in both browsers, though Internet Explorer needs the Adobe SVG Viewer to render SVG and the MathPlayer to render MathML. Be aware that Xopus does not support editing in SVG or MathML output. To edit the SVG or MathML, you still need to render HTML output from the same XML. Xopus will synchronize the changes to that shared source XML with the SVG/MathML XSL output. Another approach could be including SVG/MathML content from an external source using the XSL document() function or XInclude.
Let us know what you think!
